Bob Beckman

Hello All,

I am not sure who of all of you knew Bob Beckman.  I am fairly surely that most of you did.  Bob was our grounds guy in physical plant.  I wanted to let you all know that Bob passed away yesterday at 4 pm.  At this time there aren’t any funeral arrangements, I should have some additional information tomorrow.

If I missed anyone would you please share this with them.

Thanks so much,

Tara

Professional Staff Response Letter

I am posting the letter that I sent to Professional Staff in response to their request for help with the “Student in Crisis” fund.

Dear Cherie,

When Staff Council met on Friday, November 14, we discussed the request of Professional Staff to assist in the Student Crisis Fund.  While we feel that this endeavor is a worthwhile cause for the campus, the vote was not to participate at this time.  Staff Council gets so many requests for funds that last year we voted to form a budget committee.  The committee has designed a form to submit (see enclosed) twice a year for those requesting financial assistance.  The committee reviews the requests and brings them to the table for a vote.  We limit our giving to $1000 a year which is distributed among the request we choose to support.  Your group is more than welcome to submit this form for consideration of future funds.

It was also discussed how our campus supports the United Way campaign every year, and we provide free counseling for students in need.  There was much discussion on how we should be utilizing these agencies to help students in crisis mode.  These are good resources for students to receive free help.

There seems to be a misconception on this campus that Staff Council just does fundraising.  While we do a fair amount of fundraising, that is not the primary mission of the group. We would like to see other groups such as Professional Staff get more involved in fundraising to sustain the projects they feel are important.  Selling the holiday cards is a great way to start your fundraising, and we wish you great success.

Sincerely,

IU Kokomo Staff Council
